A LITTLE PIECE OF HEAVEN
My husband and I stayed at Bruno and Astrid's house in August 2016. I have friends in Uttenweiler that I haven't seen in over 30 years so it was a very memorable trip for me.
First the House - simple, uncluttered space with clean lines and beautifully restored wood floors and doors and in a rural, farmland setting. We chose the larger of the 2 bedrooms on the first floor. Bed was very comfortable, the room had plenty of natural light and every morning we woke up to the sounds of the countryside. The kitchen is well-stocked with pots, pans, dishes and anything you'll need for cooking. The bathroom has a lovely modern-yet-vintage look to it, including a great tub to soak in. The whole house is minimalist design but with the comfort of old, polished wood and warm wood tones.
The location - idyllic. You only need to sit on the front steps with your morning coffee to see and smell all that this house has to offer: cows in the pasture, ducks and geese scurrying around, smells of hay and grass and all things "Landswirtschaft". The village of Uttenweiler is a very quaint one for any American. Red-roofed houses line winding streets in the oldest section of town, with a beautiful church complete with 2 onion-domed towers. And the bakery around the corner from the house is a treasure for pastries, breads and pretzels.
The Owners - Bruno and Astrid are friendly, helpful and know the meaning of hospitality. My favorite memory is of their inviting us to join them for a barbecue dinner at their house, which is next door. We talked both English and German for several hours over a delicious meal. (English speakers need not worry about communicating. Both Bruno and Astrid speak English.) On another note, I had forgotten to tell them that I have a severe allergy to feathers. I sent them an email the day before we arrived asking them to make sure we had synthetic bedding. When we arrived, all non-allergic bedding was set up and feathers removed. These are very, very nice people.
For anyone looking for a peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, and also looking for a house with DESIGN, I give this Ferienwohnung a perfect score.
