Hey, lovers of good design - go there! Catch a glimpse of design classics and undoubtedly you will appreciate the architect’s ingenuity who had his fingers in this project! Short list for experts: Ball chair by Eero Aarnio, Panton chair by Verner Panton for Vitra, Eames Chair DSW for Vitra, recycling bin Ovetto ...... .. I've been hunting for THIS place for two years. Either the calendar did not match, or there were no flights available, always something. In the end- it worked. „Minimum stay is a week” – Javier repeated in emails like a mantra. Fortunately - in a shorter time you can not enjoy all the charms of this place. I’m back home relaxed and happy, ready to describe Finca Paraiso to the future guests: 1. Location Gran Canaria on the coast is crowded, oppressive, and for people seeking tranquility even repulsive. A trip into the interior is a trip to another island. Green, lush, charming. And quiet. Finca is situated 10 km from the motorway and some 20min from Maspalomas. Not a challange. But certainly „not a challange” cannot be called a breakneck road leading to the property. That's a kilometre of narrow, steep, asphalt road. Not everyone will cope with it - specially in a a rented car - and if someone comes from the opposite direction –be prepared for a drama. We have not met anyone for the whole week - luckily! The view from the terrace is amazing – doesn’t matter if it is day or night - the observation of the changing shadows created by the the sun or the moon on the surrounding rocks are thrilling. Watches can be set up by -in sequence comming -dragonflies, swallows, bats and unidentified birds which urged with weeping "Auua, auua". There is a small minus - sleepyheads have to grapple with a morning 5 o’clock rooster on the property nearby. That was all about fauna. When it comes to flora, it deserves a paean too –the house occupies the highest level of the property; below, there are three or four terraces planted with figs, coffee, vines, bananas and citrus fruits. It is so great to have a morning walk and pick "your" lemons for the lemonade! Plus the blooming cacti, bougainvillea and other plants that I do not even know and you have a real paradise underneath. Each terrace has a seating area. Everyone will find a place for himself. Someone may feel dissappointed that there is no lawn, somewhere in the corner the abandoned fruit boxes are left, under a bricked terrace there is a storeplace with garden furniture, bicycles, stock of planks, bamboo shutters ... well, it i supposed to be a shabby chic style……….. 2. The House For two people it is very comfortable. The house interior design is a mix of many styles from the mid-century with icons of design, bohemia in the sitting area, industrial style armchairs and concrete kitchen box, a little op-art in the bedroom, Ikea's classics in the next two bedrooms (which could be slightly improved) .. The main bathroom with a concrete and stone shower and a skylight encourage for a longer splashing. The second bathroom is less attractive – I would recommend to change the shower. The kitchen is fantastically equipped: from spices, coffee, aluminum foil, spice spill , paella dish, classic Italian coffee pot, oven, huge fridge with freezer, professional sink battery. Zara Home plates and Pantone cups to colour the picture. Countless pots and pans in a smart storage compartment, which plays as a seating place on the terrace. Very clever! A welcome bottle of wine - very nice! There is no shortage of towels, garbagebags, cloths, sponges-nothing missed. Even a water supply in the plastic jug! And the BBQ with coal and kindling is there! For larger groups it can be hard to accommodate as the owners keep spare items,towels and blankets in wardrobes. It was perfect for us two. Turn a blind eye to imperfection things around – you are on holidays! 3. What to do? First day: Make a tour around the house-> with a glass of sparkling wine of course! On the second day, you can go to the shop in Arguineguin and stock your fridge. The kitchen and the dining room are so inviting that we resigned from celebrating birthday at the coast and made a wonderful barbacue in Finca! On the third day, take a look at the Soria and Presa de las Ninas reservoir Fourth day - if you are really pulling to the sea - go for lunch to Puerto de Mogan. Fifth day might be challenging with early morning call – kick off to intetrior towards Telde and the highest peak Pico de Nieves On the sixth day – okay, hell, do it! - go to Maspalomas for an ice cream, go along the promenade and dip your feet in the sand of the dunes. Finally on the seventh day, do not move absolutely from Finca – browse all old design magazines from 2011 and 2012 which are located in the living room and look for inspiration, which were introduced into the house by the owners..
