At the end of February I spontaneously decided to drive to Bad Gastein from Salzburg as a business meeting was cancelled – when I arrive at Haus Hirt in Bad Gastein it was fully booked, but then the onwers Evelyn and Ike offered for me to stay at their new development referred to as "Alpenlofts". I was not sure as I like to be pempered in a Hotel, but what a positive surprise. Of course the view is magnificent across the whole of the Valley, but the most stricking aspect for me was that ambiguity between inside and outside living. The materials used inside also mirror the surrounding pine trees and granite – I was lucky with the weather and during the sun hours you just slide the big windows to the side and you are ourside with all the creature comforts of being inside. I think the key benefit is that the open plan design and the wide open glass front melts the usual boundary between indoor and outdoor. For me this was a significantly change to the "normal" guests experience. Ike’s design offers a wonderful ambiguity of where inside ends and outside begins, of what is inside and what is outside. I think its just the perfekt mountain lair to get lost to find yourself …
